Setup and Technical FAQs
The setup guide says I should hear a tone from my PC when I connect the USB cable. When I connect my USB cable, the device LEDs illuminate, but I'm not hearing the tone.
If you are running Windows 10, you should hear the tone. If you are running Windows 11, it might not play the tone even if the USB connection established successfully.
If you hear the tone, Windows successfully established the USB connection and you can continue.
If you don't hear the tone, but the LED(s) on the device illuminated, Windows likely successfully established the USB connection and you should try to continue.
The Putt Tracker application is showing that my device is connected to my WiFi and my computer is connected to my WiFi, but the Putt Tracker application can't connect to my device using WiFi.
First, make sure your Putt Tracker device is connected to the same WiFi network that is the computer running your Putt Tracker application (i.e. make sure one isn't connected to your main WiFi network while the other is connected to your "guest" network). Some wireless routers will allow connections between wireless networks if the router is controlling both wireless networks, but it's safest to connect your device to the same WiFi network that which your computer is connected.
If confirmed connected to the same WiFi network:
Some WiFi networks are configured to not allow HTTP communication between devices connected to it, including virtually all "guest" WiFi networks. Networks configured as such will prevent the Putt Tracker application from connecting to your Putt Tracker device.
Many public WiFi networks are configured like this, and while most private/personal WiFi routers aren't, some do come configured this way by default.
Public and "Guest" WiFi Networks:
If you are trying to connect via a public WiFi network, over which you have no control, or a "guest" WiFi network, you will have to use a different WiFi network. If there are no other WiFi networks that you can use, there is likely nothing you can really do and therefore you will have to connect to your device using the supplied USB cable or connect via your mobile device's "hotspot" feature (described below).
Private/Home WiFi Networks:
If you are trying to connect via your own private/personal/home WiFi network, you will have to update the setting(s) in your wireless router to allow HTTP connections/communication between devices connected to your network.
Tethering with your Mobile Device Hotspot:
While this likely would not be your preferred means of wirelessly connecting to your device, our tests have shown that if you turn on the WiFi "Hotspot" ("Tethering") on your mobile device (i.e. phone) and connect both your device and computer to your mobile device's hotspot, your Right Edge Putt Tracker application will then be able to connect to your Putt Tracker device through WiFi.
